Nagoya Meijo Park Cherry Blossom Viewing

In early spring, 400 Somei Yoshino cherry trees bloom as expected outside the stone walls of Nagoya Castle. The weeping cherry trees along the moat cascade like pink waterfalls, creating a breathtaking scene with the golden shachihoko tiles of the castle keep under the blue sky. Tokugawa Ieyasu, who built the castle during the Edo period, might not have foreseen that the reconstructed castle of reinforced concrete would still faithfully carry on the aesthetics of the Sengoku period. When the night cherry blossom lighting ceremony begins, the spotlights dye the petals a translucent light crimson, resembling an ukiyo-e painting that transcends time. It is recommended to bring a Nagoya specialty 'Gozen Bento' and have a picnic amidst the cherry blossom snow at Ninomaru Square. The park is a 5-minute walk from Exit 7 of Shiyakusho Station on the Meijo Subway Line. The best viewing period is usually from late March to early April.
