Kayakoy ghost village in Turkey

Kayakoy ghost village lies a short distance from Fethiye, it’s one of the most important tourist sites of Fethiye. It will take you 10 minutes to get there from Fethiye. This unique place definitely worth visiting. And I’m sure it will leave a mark in your heart. It was a village where Greeks and Turks people lived next to each other, Greeks called the village Levissi while the Turks called it Kayakoy. It used to be a mixed community, and people obviously had a wonderful way of life An earthquake finally destroyed the town in the Fifties, but it really started to die when the Christian population was deported from Turkey. The village is now empty except for tour groups and roadside vendors selling handmade goods. There are a few houses which have been restored and are currently occupied. Kayaköy village serves as a museum and is a historical monument. Around 500 houses remain as ruins and are under the protection of the Turkish government, including two Greek Orthodox Churches, which remain the most important sites of the ghost town. #turkey #muğla #trip #village
