Must-visit park in Maseru

Thaba-Bosiu National Monument is located on a plateau in the Phuthiatsana Valley. Thaba-Bosiu National Monument is an important historical and cultural site in Lesotho, located on the sacred mountain of Lesotho. It was here that the founder of Lesotho, Moshoeshoe I, defeated the Boers and defended the country's independence. During the occupation of the founder of the Basotho nation, Moshoeshoe I, in 1824, it was named Thaba-Bosiu (Mountain of the Night). It got its name because when you approach it, it is impressive and awe-inspiring, especially at night, to invading enemies. Covering an area of about 3 km (north-south) by 2 km (east-west), it has steep vertical cliffs along the ridge and can only be accessed by footpaths. Several springs on the plateau sustain the inhabitants, some of which are named after historical figures, such as the springs used by Moshoeshoe I's first wife, Mamohato, and Moshoeshoe's brother, Makhabane. At the top of the mountain is a cemetery where Moshoeshoe I and his family are buried. The most formal grave is that of Moshoeshoe I, who was buried on January 15, 1996. On the plateau are the remains of the village of Moshoeshoe. The walls of the two-room European-style house, and several houses where Moshoeshoe I's family and villagers lived, still stand. Inscriptions on the rocks testify to the interaction between Moshoeshoe and other countries. There are rock paintings and other forms of archaeological material/deposits. Standing on the edge of the cliff, you can overlook the Hat Mountain.
