Sichuan Meishan: Cultural Holy Land - The Three Su Shrine!

Located in Dongpo District, Meishan City, Sichuan Province, the Three Su Shrine is the former residence of Su Shi, Su Che, and Su Xun. All three were great literary figures of the Northern Song Dynasty, and their poetry is considered a literary treasure. Their residence became a place of reverence for later generations. During the Southern Song Dynasty, the former residence was converted into a shrine. However, it was destroyed by war at the end of the Ming Dynasty and has since been rebuilt several times, passing down to the present day. The shrine consists of the front hall (ancient shrine gate), the banquet hall, Qixian Hall, Laifeng Pavilion, east and west wing rooms, and corridors. The style embodies the characteristics of Qing Dynasty garden literati shrines, with red walls embracing, green water winding, lotus ponds interconnected, ancient trees shading, small bridges frequently spanning, and halls and pavilions hidden in dense foliage. This forms an island residence feature with three parts water and two parts bamboo, with pavilions and terraces, simple and elegant, with couplets and inscriptions that are rich in meaning.
