A Short Getaway to Food Paradise - Malacca

We had the most wonderful time in Malacca over the weekend eating away. We did a road trip from Singapore to Malacca, and our first pit stop was Gelang Patah. We planned to go all the way to Yong Peng but it was raining quite heavily so we decided to stop to have lunch first. We ate at the first store we saw - Tang Ren Jie Bak Kut Teh and it was not a bad choice at all! Hot soup and steaming hot rice are the best combination on a rainy day! It just warmed us then and I felt so glad that we chanced upon the bkt store. We continued our journey to Malacca, stopping for a short while at Yong Peng. As it was raining, we didn't stop by any cafes or restaurants. We did visit one cafe on our way back though (next few posts). In Malacca, the first restaurant we visited was Famosa Chicken Rice Ball. It is famous for its chicken but ironically I find that their Char Siew is tastier! It is roasted just right without compromising the tenderness of the meat and the sauce that comes with it has the right balance of sweetness and savoury. It is difficult to find Char Siew that tastes this good. The rice ball is flavourful and pretty delicious too, we ordered ten (2 bowls of rice) and finished them all! The next stop we went to is The Peranakan House. We were pretty full but couldn't resist trying their Chendol. We ended up ordering other dishes - Kue Pie Tee (my love!), Peranakan laksa and Ang Ku Kue. The best dish award goes to the Kue Pie Tee! It is unlike the other Kue Pie Tee that I have tried in Singapore. The freshly made shell is very crispy and the cashew nut gives the Kue Pie Tee a flavourful crunch. This trip we focused more on food than the places of interest as it was the second time we visited Malacca. Word of wisdom - always visit a country at least twice to fully experience it! 1.
