Exploring Redang Island: A Journey Full of Surprises

AirAsia makes traveling within Malaysia incredibly convenient, acting like a bus in the sky. With quick 1-hour flights, you can easily hop from one place to another. Despite my fear of cancellations and delays, I experienced a 1-hour and 40-minute delay. Fortunately, the hotel was responsive and assured me they would wait for me at the airport, easing my worries about missing the island transfer. The journey to Redang Island was quite an adventure: a 1-hour flight, followed by a 1-hour drive from the airport to the jetty, and then a bumpy 1-hour speedboat ride to the island. I expected the sea to resemble the Maldives' crystal-clear waters and the hotel to offer a similar ambiance. However, I was greeted by a tractor-like vehicle with an open back for transportation. I booked a budget-friendly coral hotel, which had little to offer besides its low price. The room lacked basic amenities like a toothbrush, and the setup was reminiscent of a simple Chinese motel with a small bed. The foreign guests seemed unfazed by the presence of large lizards and snakes, even encouraging me not to be afraid. With few Chinese visitors, the food options were not tailored to Chinese tastes. While the island and sea were decent, the hotel was disappointing. This experience made me realize that the Maldives truly has no equivalent.
