Phra That Doi Wao & the Northernmost Skywalk in Thailand Phra That Doi Wao is stunning. The temple is decorated in a mixed Burmese style, featuring flowers and the purple color that represents Chiang Rai province. The golden stupa shines brightly. The word "Wao" in the Northern Thai dialect means "scorpion," as this hill was once home to many scorpions. Inside the temple, you'll find a 150-meter-long glass skywalk. It offers a clear view below, so those afraid of heights might need to think twice. However, the 360-degree view is breathtaking, showcasing both Thailand and Myanmar, separated only by a river. Overall, it's beautiful, fun, and thrilling. At the end of the skywalk, you'll encounter the Glass Castle, which houses various elaborately adorned Buddha statues. It's a perfect spot for photography and well worth the walk to the end. How to Get There: Since the temple is located on a hill with narrow and steep roads, you need to park your car before reaching the Mae Sai-Tachileik checkpoint. Then, walk into the left-hand alley of the Sai Lom Joy Market, where you'll find the temple's shuttle service marked by a large purple scorpion symbol. The shuttle costs 15 baht per person for a round trip and will take you directly to Phra That Doi Wao. Highly recommended! If you're visiting Mae Sai, this is a must-see destination!
