Sunrise at Wat Phra That Doi Kongmu 🇹🇭
#temples
Perched atop the scenic hills of Mae Hong Son, Wat Phra That Doi Kongmu offers visitors a serene and spiritually enriching experience, particularly at sunrise. This ancient temple, distinguished by its two majestic chedis, becomes a place of profound beauty and tranquility when the first rays of the sun light up the sky.
A Haven of Peace and Spirituality
As dawn breaks over Wat Phra That Doi Kongmu, the entire complex is bathed in a gentle golden light. The temple, with its traditional Lanna architecture, provides a stunning contrast against the soft morning sky. The air is crisp and cool, filled with the sweet scent of incense and the sounds of morning prayers, creating an atmosphere that uplifts the soul.
Panoramic Views at Dawn
The vantage point from Doi Kongmu hill offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the sleepy town of Mae Hong Son below. As the sun rises, the landscape transforms with hues of orange, pink, and purple, casting a mystical glow over the mist-covered hills. This spectacular sight not only offers great photographic opportunities but also a moment of deep contemplation and renewal.
Engaging with Local Culture
Visiting Wat Phra That Doi Kongmu at sunrise allows for a unique glimpse into the daily rituals and practices of the local monks. Observing or even participating in the morning alms or meditation sessions can provide a deeper understanding of Thai Buddhist traditions and the spiritual heritage of the region.
Visitor Tips
- Early Arrival: Be sure to arrive early to catch the pre-dawn serenity and secure a good spot for sunrise viewing. The temple opens at dawn, and it’s worth getting there as the gates open.
- Dress Respectfully: Remember to wear appropriate attire to show respect in this sacred place. Shoulders and knees should be covered, and shoes removed when entering the temple buildings.
- Quiet and Respectful Behavior: Maintain a respectful silence or speak softly when on temple grounds, especially during morning prayers and meditations.

Mae Hong Son
Mae Hong Son makes for a great 3 - 4 days stay for those who are looking to explore Mae Hong Son province deeper and who enjoy a more traditional Thai way of life than those you find in Pai or Chiang Mai.
I spent a good 4 days in Mae Hong Son City during my time completing the Mae Hong Son Loop and thanks to all the tips provided by the local guest house's owner I have come to trust, here are all the best things you must do in and around Mae Hong Son City.

Amazing Route around Chiang Mai!
This route was done in 1 day! However, it gets really tiring especially with the mountainous ride.
Take a sip of tea and a bowl of hot soup noodles in Pang Mahba, dangling your feet off the air! The food was really good too.
Supposedly if you are travelling in a group, it would be great to break the itinerary into a few days, stay overnight in Ban Rak Thai, beautiful Yunan village at the border of Myanmar/China!
Oriental Gem in a hidden Thailand valley
The city name "Ban Rak Thai" is directly translated to "I love Thailand" which was hidden in a valley of Mae Hon Son province in Thailand. The city is well hidden in lush green bamboo and vegetables farm. It's recommended to access via motorbike or car if you have good skills to make it through narrow and steep corners. It's about an hour away from the capital city of Mae Hon Son.
Thing Bua Tong Fields With A View
Mae Hong Son is located west of the city of chiang mai and I believe it is too underrated. If you are someone who loves scenery, unblocked views and the sunrise and sunset you should head here. There is a small little village on top if the mountains here down south of Mae Hong Son called Thung Bua Tong where you be able to catch beautiful views of the colourful flowers being growned on the lush mountains with a backdrop view of the mountains in the background.
The best time to visit her is in the later part of the year where you be able to see the many sunflowers especially which you get to see around Thailand where some will use it as offerings for temples during the prayers. Such amazing view in a rural area in Thailand.

The Village Of Mae Hong Son
Mae Hong Son is a village located on the west side of chiang mai where also the popular village Pai is.
This is a very rural area where not much tourists visits unless you are made known about it and is someone that would like to explore the less explored places like Mae Hong Son, which is also located in the mountainous region in Chiang Mai.
The weather here is exceptionally cooling and crisp when in the morning, and if you do like trekking and the nature in the national parks, this is an ideal location for travel, not forgetting budget friendly too!

Traditional Scenic Thai Chinese Village
Mae Hong Son is located up north of changi mai where there is a little village called Ban Rak Thai located right at the border of Myanmar(Burma).
Getting here alone is almost impossible and I do recommend going by tour normally a small day tour group picking you up at Mae Hong Son Town. This town is a quiet peaceful town surrounding the Khuean Nai Mok Reservior, making this a very beautiful photoshot backdrop for many! And normally people come this town for 2 things, the view and the many tea tasting plantation.
Not many people are aware of such beauty in Thailand, so maybe step out of your comfort zone and travel somewhere out of the norm for once. Oh P.S, I finally also able to get to use my drone without any restrictions. Muahhahaah!!

This villge is located strategically next to the Viewpoint called Yun Lai and is very beautiful with the golden colors. There are many activities to do. As you can see in the picture there is a funny swing that has four chairs for two people each and cost 25 baht for service. Furthermore there is a archery spot where you can imagination how they used to shoot with arrows back in the days. The village offers many places in the shade a nice little lake where you can feed the fish and a cool viewpoint where you can have an overview of the entire village. they also offer smacks and souvenirs at the entrance #tripblazers

Su Tong Pae Bridge, Mae Hong Son: The meaning of the bridge is “The wishes come true”. The bridge has been built across from the temple to the community so the minks can walk on the bridge instead of walking on the rice field. This bridge made from bamboo wood in a nice local style.
Thampla, Mae Hong Son - Thailand: This place is located in Pha Suea National Park. There are a lot of fishes there. The interesting thing is we can feed the fish with a kind of Thai eggplant which you can purchase there.
Ban Huay Hom, Mae Hong Son - Thailand: A peaceful place which is for weekend getaway. Good season is winter starting from Nov - Jan. The view is truly amazing with panoramic mountail view. It takes almost 3 hours to get there from ChiangMai by driving.
Mo Paeng Waterfall, Mae Hong Son - Thailand: Most tourists are foreigners with few locals and they love to climb up a little bit to enjoy the water up there. It is not so hard to climb up but this is not for everyone. For those who stay on the ground, they can still enjoy the view with water there as well.
Ban Rak Thai, Mae Hong Son - Thailand: The peaceful village surrounded by mountains and tea planation with the lake view in front. Good timing to visit is from Nov - Jan which is a winter time in Thailand. However, it takes quite a long drive to get there.
Mae Hong Son - Thailand: Pang Ung Lake is so much beautiful especislly in winter time. This is a good place for camping and relaxing. The whether there is less than 10c in December which is quite hard to experience in Thailand. There are 2 ways to get there either driving from ChiangMai or Mae Hong Son. 🌲🌲🌲
Hey, you said that Chiang Mai, Bangkok is getting tired? Amway, a small travel destination: Mae Hong Son, confirming the eyes, is a place worth visiting.
Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu is a very famous local temple, 1,500 meters above sea level. This height can overlook the entire Mae Hong Son, even the lift of the plane can be seen clearly. And there is a particularly good place to take pictures in front of Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu. Figure 6 is not the feeling of hanging in the air! I really like this photo. Here, even if you just find a green plant to use as a background, it is also a big movie in minutes.
Wat Chong Kham - Wat Chong Klang
Wat Chong Kham and Wat Chong Klang are located within the same temple grounds, situated by Nong Chong Kham. Inside Wat Chong Kham, there is a Tai Yai-Burmese style stupa, Buddha images for each day of the week, and Phra Chao Inthasan, a bamboo-woven Buddha statue. There is also a museum showcasing carvings and various antiques. Wat Chong Klang houses Luang Pho To, a revered Buddha image among the locals, and the Viharn Phra Sangkachai. Both temples feature beautiful and sturdy Tai Yai-Burmese style wooden viharns and are important temples in Mae Hong Son province.
Opening hours: Daily 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Location: Wat Chong Kham - Wat Chong Klang, Chamnansathit Road, Chong Kham Subdistrict, Mueang Mae Hong Son District, Mae Hong Son Province 58000

Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu
Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu is an important temple located on the summit of Doi Kong Mu in the heart of Mae Hong Son city. This significant temple is used for important Buddhist ceremonies in the province. You can drive up to the temple or walk up the Naga stairs, which is not difficult. From the viewpoint, you can see the entire Mae Hong Son city and its airport clearly. The highlight of the temple is the pair of Tai Yai-Burmese style pagodas. In front of the pagodas, there is a bell. It is believed that if you ring this bell, you will return to Mae Hong Son as many times as you ring it. Not far from there, the temple's coffee shop offers a place to sit and enjoy coffee while taking in the city view. This spot is ideal for watching the sunrise and the sea of mist covering Mae Hong Son during the winter. On the other side, there is a path leading up to the temple's ordination hall. To the right of the ordination hall is a spot to watch the sunset behind the mountains.
Opening hours: Every day from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM

Little Good Things is a homemade-style restaurant that makes delicious desserts using locally sourced seasonal ingredients. The restaurant started with vegan cuisine, so the desserts are also made using vegan methods. The taste of the desserts comes from the ingredients themselves without added sweetness. The Banoffee pie has a natural sweetness from the bananas, perfectly balanced with the cream. The carrot cake contains real carrots and walnuts. Romantic Camping Spots
Pang Ung is one of the most romantic destinations in Thailand. It's a place I've always dreamed of visiting, and it did not disappoint. The fatigue from driving through the 3,000 curves vanished when I saw the breathtaking scenery. Interestingly, I didn't realize it was Loy Krathong Day until it was almost upon us, so I thought I would miss out on the festivities. But guess what? You can float krathongs at Pang Ung! For those worried about accommodations, there are plenty of homestays available starting at 400 baht. If you prefer camping, you can rent a tent from the staff for 350-600 baht. And don't forget to enjoy a delicious barbecue in the cool weather. I find myself eating barbecue on every trip!
Ban Tak Thai village
#traveldiaries
This Ban Rak Thai village, founded by the Yunnan people, is located in the Makhao Sang area. It is about six hours from Chiang Mai.
According to the locals, it is also known as Mae Aw Village 💁♀️
Traditional Chinese houses with small red lanterns hanging on them... Tea fields planted along the hillside... The beauty of this Ban Rak Thai village is depicted...
In the middle of the village, there are also small marinas where you can go boating...
Relaxing on the street with small red lanterns hanging... The Night Market, where you can enjoy the night beauty of the mountain area, is also famous in this village

Rak Thai Village
If you visit Mae Hong Son and Pai, don't forget to stop by Rak Thai Village. This Yunnan Chinese village features a large pond in the center, with excellent weather and very cold nights. The town has a beautiful Chinese-style charm, with great views and a wonderful atmosphere. The accommodations are lovely and Chinese-themed. Don't forget to try the Yunnan pork leg paired with steamed buns. There are tea and plum shops offering free samples. A morning boat ride is incredibly beautiful. Make sure to bring some nice outfits for photos.
The beauty of Mae Hong Son Thailand 🇹🇭
#traveldiaries
Mae Hong Son is a remote, mountainous province in northern Thailand, bordering Myanmar (Burma). Though sparsely populated, it's ethnically diverse and home to hill tribes such as the Shan and Hmong. The capital, also called Mae Hong Son, is a gateway to the region's hills. It's overlooked by Wat Phrathat Doi Kongmu, a Burmese-style monastery with 2 ornate white chedis (stupas) built in the 19th century.
Generally, with its hilly landscapes, Mae Hong Son has cooler temperatures than other provinces in Thailand, which is often perceived as more pleasant to travel .
