Macau's Mediterranean Escape

#mediterraneanvibes Macau offers a fascinating blend of East and West, and nowhere is this more evident than in its embrace of Mediterranean-inspired themes. Two prominent examples are The Venetian Macao and Macau Fisherman's Wharf, each striving to transport visitors to sun-drenched European shores. The Venetian Macao is a grand homage to Venice, Italy. From the moment you step inside, the meticulously recreated St. Mark's Square, complete with its iconic Campanile Tower and Clock Tower, evokes a strong sense of Italian romance. The vibrant, painted skies on the ceiling create an illusion of perpetual twilight, enhancing the feeling of being outdoors. The crowning glory, of course, are the indoor canals where authentic gondolas, serenaded by singing gondoliers, glide beneath picturesque bridges. The architecture, with its ornate facades, classical arches, and opulent interiors, truly immerses guests in a Venetian dreamscape, inviting them to wander through its labyrinthine Grand Canal Shoppes, which boast over 350 international brands. Even the dining options extend the theme, with Italian restaurants offering a taste of the Mediterranean. Meanwhile, Macau Fisherman's Wharf presents a broader "European" or "Mediterranean" vibe, incorporating architectural styles from various coastal towns. While it also features Venetian-inspired elements, you'll find replicas of ancient Roman amphitheater ruins, lighthouses, and buildings reminiscent of different world seaports like Cape Town and Amsterdam. The waterfront promenade, lined with these diverse European-style structures, creates a picturesque setting for dining and leisure. The atmosphere is more eclectic, a "world tour" in miniature, with its distinct themed zones, including a "Mediterranean" and "Caribbean" area, promising a vibrant and varied experience. Both destinations offer a unique escapism, proving that even in the heart of Asia, the allure of the Mediterranean remains a powerful draw.

The Venetian Macao

Never a dull moment during the whole day in Macau. Visit the multiple casinos and the old parts of town. Eat the egg tarts, shop in the Venetian or try to win some money on the tables or slot machines. We would recommend the W Macau Studio City for a stay.
