The Cathedral of Macau

The Cathedral of Macau is located at Largo da Sé, also known as the Sé or the Great Temple, with a long history. It was originally built in 1567 as a small wooden structure, which, after years of weathering and erosion, became dilapidated. In 1849, the Catholic community raised funds to rebuild it, and the present-day façade began to take shape. In 1937, the cathedral was rebuilt again with rammed earth construction, which resulted in its current majestic appearance. This site was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in July 2005, becoming the thirty-first World Heritage Site in China. The typical Mediterranean style, stained glass, wooden Portuguese screens, and statues of the Virgin Mary are all valuable cultural relics.
