Lou Lim Ieoc Garden, Macau

Lou Lim Ieoc Garden, also known as Lou Garden or Lou Kau Garden, was named after Lou Lim Ieoc, the son of Lou Chuo Chi, a wealthy Chinese businessman in the 19th century. It is the only famous garden in the Macau Peninsula that was designed in the style of Suzhou and Hangzhou gardens. The garden is filled with pavilions, towers, ponds, bridges, caves, waterfalls, strange rocks and winding corridors, showcasing the greatest characteristics of Suzhou and Hangzhou gardens. The park still incorporates Southern European architectural features, such as Chun Cao Tang and walls, reflecting the Macau culture that blends Chinese and Western cultures. At that time, Lu Chaozhi (also known as Lu Huashao) ordered people to build this garden in a low-lying and muddy area. Later, his son Lu Lianruo ordered people to build large-scale construction in the garden, and it was not completed until 1925. The "Chuncaotang" in the garden was the place where visitors were received in the past. After Lou Lim Ieoc's death, part of the land was sold and Lou Garden was purchased by the then Macau government in 1973.
