Meilu Villa

Meilu Villa is located in Lushan Scenic Area, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. It is a unique and famous cultural attraction in Lushan, showcasing a side of China's modern history. Meilu Villa was once the summer residence of Chiang Kai-shek, the "Chairman's Office," and the "beautiful house" where the "First Lady" Soong Mei-ling lived. It was built in 1903 by British Lord Reynolds and transferred to Mrs. Barry in 1922. Mrs. Barry had a close personal relationship with Soong Mei-ling. In the summer of 1933, Mrs. Barry let Chiang Kai-shek and his wife live in this villa. In 1934, Mrs. Barry gave this villa to Soong Mei-ling as a gift. Since then, Soong Mei-ling has become the sole owner of this villa. A poem reads: The mist locks the green cliffs, the road is heavy, and the old traces are still visible. The wind and clouds rise suddenly, the flags change, the drums and horns compete, and the swords and halberds are sealed. The rise and fall of a hundred years is a sigh, and the right and wrong of a thousand years await public opinion. Pity the old country, the place where it was once, only the old inscriptions on the stone remain.
