Yao Mountain Rime Wonder, First Appearance of a Silver Coat

On October 20, 2025, Yao Mountain in Lushan County, Pingdingshan, Henan, welcomed the first rime wonder of the second half of the year! Overnight, the verdant mountains were draped in silver, and the grass and trees transformed into ice sculptures, creating an utterly stunning scene everywhere. Yao Mountain is located in the eastern section of the Funiu Mountains and is the ancestral home of the Liu family. Yao’s descendant Liu Lei once established the "Yao Shrine" here to honor his ancestors. The area features unique peaks, lush trees, numerous waterfalls, and attractions including Dongling Pool, Shifei Yuzhang, and Bailong Pool, making it an excellent place for hiking and sightseeing. Visitors can take a sightseeing bus (10 yuan one way, 20 yuan round trip) to the cable car station (80 yuan up, 60 yuan down), then choose to walk or take the cable car to the mid-mountain area. It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to walk to the summit; from Tongtian Gate to Yuhuang Peak, the hike takes about 5 to 6 hours. For descending, a paid slide option is also available. Yao Mountain is most beautiful in autumn, from mid-October to the end of November, when the layers of red leaves are magnificently breathtaking. Standing on the main peak, Yuhuang Peak, the surrounding scenery varies greatly, and with good luck, you might encounter a spectacular sea of clouds.
