More than 1300 years ago, during the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Gaozong of Tang built the Shangyang Palace on the banks of the Luo River, southwest of the Luoyang Imperial City. The palace's architecture was majestic, and its gardens were beautifully scenic, making it a symbol of the Tang Dynasty's prosperity. It was also the place where Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu Zetian governed, worked, and lived. Today's Shangyang Palace Cultural Park has restored and rebuilt the Guanfeng Hall, Ganlu Hall, Keshengyuan, and Dongyuan Hall, which are four sets of ancient-style buildings surrounded by water systems.
