Viewpoint of That Phousi, That Sak, Luang Prabang

#VisitLaos Phu Si Temple is another important landmark of Luang Prabang. It is a sacred pagoda that Luang Prabang people highly respect. It is also a beautiful viewpoint of Luang Prabang. Phu Si Temple is located on a 150-meter-high hill in the heart of Luang Prabang. It was built in 1794 by King Anurud before being renovated in 1914. Originally, this hill was called Phusong, but later a hermit went up to stay there, so the villagers renamed it Phousi, which means the mountain of the hermit. The highlight of Phousi Temple is the pagoda in the shape of a square golden lotus, approximately 21 meters high, set on a square base with a seven-tiered golden umbrella. To pay homage to the pagoda, you have to climb 328 steps. The area around the pagoda is also a viewpoint of Luang Prabang that offers a 360-degree view of the Mekong River and the Khan River.
