The Dolby Theatre (English: Dolby Theatre), formerly known as the Kodak Theatre, is located on Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California, United States. It is one of the buildings in the Hollywood and Highland Center. It opened on November 9, 2001 and became the permanent venue for the Academy Awards in 2002. At other times, the theater is used to host performances such as concerts and other types of award ceremonies. The finale of every season of the American singing reality show "American Idol" is held here. The theater was designed specifically for the Academy Awards ceremony and can accommodate 3,400 spectators. It features the largest stage in the United States, which is 120 feet wide and 75 feet deep. The press room behind the stage can accommodate up to 1,500 journalists. The theater's entrance is decorated with columns displaying the names of all Academy Award winners since 1928, with space reserved for future winners. The theater was built with a $75 million grant from Eastman Kodak, which also provided the naming rights. In 2012, Kodak declared bankruptcy and its title sponsorship was terminated. [3] On May 1, 2012, the theater's property rights agency, CIM Properties, announced that it had reached a 20-year naming contract with Dolby Laboratories Inc., and the theater was officially renamed the "Dolby Theatre".
