Narai Ratchaniwet Palace

King Narai the Great ordered its construction around the year 2209, covering an area of ​​approximately 42 rai. The style of the palace is in the style of late Ayutthaya period. The palace walls are made of dense brick and mortar, 5 meters high. On top of the walls, there are rows of sema stones on the ridge of the wall, all along the length. At each corner of the wall, there are gun turrets to protect against enemies. On the inner walls, there are about 2,000 small pointed arches for placing lanterns or lamps. The palace is divided into 3 floors: the outer palace on the east side, consisting of a reservoir, the Twelve Buildings, the Treasury Building, the Guest Reception Building, the Phra Chao Hao Building, the Elephant Stable, and the Horse Stables; the middle palace, consisting of the Chanthraphisan Throne Hall, the Phiman Mongkut Throne Hall, the Wisutthiwinitchai Throne Hall, the Chaiyasatthakorn Throne Hall, the Aksornsatthakorn Throne Hall, the Aksornsatthakhom Throne Hall, the Dusitsawan Thanya Maha Prasat Throne Hall, the Phra Prathip Throne Hall, and the Thim Dab Throne Hall; and the inner palace on the west side, consisting of the Suthasawan Throne Hall, which King Narai There were three built: Chanthapisarn Throne Hall, Sutthasawan Throne Hall, and Dusit Sawan Thanya Maha Prasat Throne Hall. After King Narai the Great passed away, this palace lost its importance and was left to decay until 1856 during the reign of King Rama IV, when he restored the palace and built a throne hall for his residence and as a secondary capital. The renovation of this palace was completed in 1862, and the King gave it the name “Phra Narai Ratchaniwet.”
