The Yu Family Residence at the Zhejiang Longyou Residential Courtyard

Originally located in Longmenqiao Village, Hengshan Town, the Yu Family Residence originally had three courtyards. The relocated sections, the first and second courtyards, form the main body of the building. Constructed in 1912 under the supervision of Yu Xiangxing, son of Yu Chengyou, and completed three years later, it stands as a prime example of early Republican architecture. The building features intricate wood carvings. Corbels, brackets, and the outer sides of the balustrades are adorned with vivid and lifelike theatrical figures. These carvings not only represent the pinnacle of early Republican woodcarving craftsmanship in Longyou County but also provide valuable insights into local opera, particularly the history of Wu Opera. The building's upper floors are interconnected, forming a "zoumalou" (a type of enclosed balcony). It is a key cultural relic site protected at the provincial level in Zhejiang.
