The theatre's name has changed with the sovereigns, from Queen's Theatre to King's Theatre... Her Majesty's Theatre was founded in 1705 and became famous for its operas, with the London premiere of the renowned 'Carmen' taking place here. The theatre was named 'His Majesty's Theatre' during the reign of George I and later renamed 'Her Majesty's Theatre' during the reign of Elizabeth II. The theatre's regular repertoire includes the musical genius Webber's 'The Phantom of the Opera', which has been performed here since 1986. In October 2011, the 25th anniversary of 'The Phantom of the Opera' was celebrated at Her Majesty's Theatre with a series of celebratory events. Watching 'The Phantom of the Opera' in such a theatre, as the phantom and souls come to life, and the crystal chandelier soars in that instant, is when Webber's classic melody begins to play, capturing that moment of bewilderment.
