Piotrkowska Street

Łódź used to be a major industrial centre for Poland and Europe, factories, textiles etc. Also a city where different cultures lived next to one another. The city has fallen on harder times but still has a scrappy spirit and is clearly in the midst of a major upgrade to buildings, public spaces, historic sites etc to compete for the tourism dollar and try to show that it can offer something for international visitors. Piotrkowska street was and still is the main hub - with dilapidated buildings within site a block or two over. But on Piotrkowska itself you can see Łódź ‘ Architectural history from the 18th and 19th century and clearly how much money there was from industry and rich families. Very cool. Check out the Manufaktura zone not far from Piotrkowska for an equally cool look at what this increasingly trendy city is doing shed its shabby chic image. We found the city to be more open minded, perhaps as a result of the historical cultural intermingling as well as the arts scene, film school, fine arts students etc. Was very happy to visit this city - up and coming!!! #lodz #walking #street #piotrkowska
