Translated, Keukenhof means "kitchen yard". In the XV century, the lands belonged to the Jacobine of Bavaria. The Duchess ordered vegetable gardens to be laid out in the hunting grounds around the castle so that fresh herbs could be served to the table. In the middle of the 19th century, the owners of the estate commissioned famous landscape architects, father and son by the name of Zoher, who developed the Vondelpark project, to refine the territory in the traditions of English park design with lawns, fountains and walking paths. After the Second World War, Dutch flower exports brought the main income to the treasury and private farms. The park received its first guests in 1949 on the initiative of the mayor of Lisse, who invited exporters to show their products in one place under the open sky. In 2018, the main Dutch flower show was visited by 1.4 million people from 100 countries. In honor of the 70th anniversary, the program of events will be especially intense. The seed fund is provided free of charge by farmers and companies engaged in the supply of goods abroad. The organizers managed to create a popular platform for demonstrating the achievements of the Dutch flower industry and an attractive tourist attraction. In the Netherlands, hundreds of thousands of bulbous crops are grown on the drained lands of Lake Haarlem, but only two months a year you can admire the amazing works of landscape designers and whole carpets of living spring flowers around the town of Lisse. The season in the park begins towards the end of March with the flowering of crocuses, which are replaced by daffodils and hyacinths, and finally, from mid-April, tulips appear in all their splendor before the audience. Towards the end of April, the park is decorated with apple trees in bloom. A tulip is a special flower. What passions boiled around him in the XVII century, fortunes were acquired and collapsed.
