Every piece of land in Yunnan has its own unique colors and emotions. Located at the foot of the Meili Snow Mountain, a secret spot in Yunnan, the guesthouse 'Xia Shan•Meili' is situated at an altitude of over 3600 meters, nestled in the village of Wunongding in Deqin County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is a building that combines Tibetan and modern architecture, rising amidst the tranquil snow-capped mountains with curling smoke from its chimneys. Design The hotel was originally a Tibetan-style residence of a Tibetan language school. The architecture is a renovation based on the rammed earth Tibetan house, created by the young architect Zhao Yang, who studied under Kazuyo Sejima. It integrates traditional Tibetan architectural style. The interior design was completed by the award-winning designer Xie Ke, featuring a terrace on the top that offers a 360° panoramic view of the Meili Snow Mountain. The room is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass windows, allowing guests to watch the sunrise in the early morning, admire the golden mountain when the mist clears, and gaze at the stars at night. Rooms The hotel's 19 guest rooms are all themed around mountain living, with names like 'Deep Forest Residence', 'Cloud Ridge Mountain Residence', 'Elegant Residence among Heavy Ranges', 'Atop Wunongding', and 'Pastoral Cloud Leisure Residence'. They use simple and comfortable materials and appropriately furnished furniture, paired with the local culture and wabi-sabi style decorations, creating a unique Tibetan home scenery together with the sunset over the snow mountain seen through the windows. Dining As it is located in a small village like a paradise, the guesthouse provides three meals and afternoon tea. The chef changes the menu daily, and the yak hotpot here is a must-try, warming the body with just one bite. You can also go to the Hengduan Mountains at an altitude of 4300 meters, where you dine in the midst of nature, with the sky and earth as your seat and the food and table as your medium, savoring the beauty and tranquility of life in each meal and drink.
