Leshan Confucian Temple

Leshan Confucian Temple, facing east from the west, covers an area of about 11,300 square meters, with a construction area of about 3,343 square meters. It consists of the Pan Pool, the Lingxing Gate, the Xian Guan, the Holy Land, the Minghuan Shrine, the Xiangxian Shrine, the Dacheng Gate, the Ritual Music Instrument Room, the Left and Right Wudian, the Zunjing Pavilion, the Chongwen Pavilion, the Liaotai, the Dacheng Hall, the Chongsheng Shrine, and the surrounding walls. This grand ancient architectural complex features multiple layers of halls and pavilions, magnificent buildings, and a grand scale. It is strategically located against the mountain with a symmetrical layout and an imposing atmosphere. Particularly notable is the Dacheng Hall located on the central axis, which is spacious, bright, solemn, and majestic. Inside the hall, 28 giant columns made of Phoebe zhennan wood are used, which are huge and exquisite in material. The beautifully carved column bases make it the best among Sichuan Confucian temples, and it has been praised by Luo Zhe Wen, a famous Chinese expert in cultural relics and ancient architecture, as 'comparable to the Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City of Beijing'. From 1938 to 1946, Wuhan University relocated to Leshan to continue its education and serve the country, creating the glorious 'Leshan Period' in the history of Wuhan University. Here, 21 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering and countless academic masters were born, endowing Leshan Confucian Temple with unique cultural value and embodying the deep affection and solidarity between the people of Luojia and Leshan, which has a long history and shared bloodline. From September 2019 to December 2020, in order to create a national historical memory and local cultural identity, after three years of planning and scientific restoration, Leshan Confucian Temple completed a comprehensive restoration, protection, and utilization project. The 'Temple and Museum Combined' Leshan Confucian Temple Museum was established and officially opened to the public for free in January 2021.
