Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village

Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village is located in Leishan County, Qiandongnan Prefecture, Guizhou Province. The village has a total of 1,468 households and more than 6,000 people, 99.5% of whom are Miao people. It is known as the largest Miao village in China and even the world. The village is surrounded by mountains on all sides, with terraced fields extending up the mountains to the clouds. The Baishui River runs through the village, dividing Xijiang Miao Village into two parts. The stilted buildings in the village are built along the mountain and stretch for miles, creating a magnificent sight. Miao farming, festivals, silver ornaments, songs and dances, and ancient customs have been passed down from generation to generation here. The village not only retains the purest natural beauty, but also has a profound cultural atmosphere. The profound cultural heritage of Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village shows the accumulation and precipitation in the long development history of the Miao people. It is known as an "open-air museum" and "the most beautiful Miao village in China", and is an excellent place to study and explore Miao culture. In 2011, Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village Scenic Area was rated as a national 4A scenic spot. Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village focuses on top-level design, element gathering, and characteristic enhancement around cultural core resources. It uses efficient enterprise and market means to boldly explore and innovate in scenic spot operation and management, village organic renewal, poverty alleviation and wealth creation for villagers, tourism consumption poverty alleviation, cultural protection and rule of law, tourism brand building, social governance effectiveness, etc. It has practiced the "Xijiang Model" of scenic spots leading villages, driving 11 villages such as Ying Shang, Gan Rong, and Ma Liao to develop rural tourism, and driving the development of tourism in Kaili and surrounding counties and cities, forming a mountain tourism development model of "group village prosperity" with Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village as the core radiation drive, promoting the deep integration of culture and tourism. In 2023, Xijiang Qianhu Scenic Area received 4.6489 million tourists, driving more than 30,000 people from 11,000 households in the county to get rid of poverty and increase their income. The happiness, security, cultural identity, and national self-confidence of the people in the county have significantly increased. Xijiang Qianhu Scenic Area has become a model for the development of rural tourism at home and abroad.
