A Harry Potteresque Gothic Gem

#myhiddengems While in Paris, we did debate about whether the 4 hr long journey to Mont St. Michel would be worth it or better skipped. Something about it though that gothic element and it reminding me of Harry Potter movies made me want to go. Now that i have done so. Allow me to share a perspective that could help others. It is located in lower Normandy which as mentioned will take you a good 4 hours to get there. The travel time is what deters people when considering it as a day trip from Paris. There is a direct train from Paris Montparnasse station to Pontorson- Mont St Michel and arrive in 3 hours 45 minutes. Tickets were around 32 USD each way. Then there is the option of travelling by road (bus). Despite the considerable time that is spent on the journey. Which wasn't all that bad for me as I have my podcasts and what not to listen to/watch and kill time. But this can be tiring physically. So choose a comfortable travel mode. Anywho, upon getting there and the sights it offered. Made the trip worth it for me. It's unusual and you could get some stunning pictures. The setting of the castle too is special. Here's a pro tip, while you are looking at 350+ steps to climb in the castle. A decent amount of steps can be avoided by taking the Fanils entrance. For me I don't mind stairs at all as they form a regular part of my workout routine. Entry to st Michel is free but entering the abbey would require tickets. And know that it generally is crowded.
