The original form of the Phra Borommathat of Muang Tung Yang was still in the form of a rice sheaf chedi, but later it was renovated by Phraya Taka, a Burmese timber trader during the Rattanakosin period, before 2544 B.E., into a Burmese-style chedi. Then in 2451 B.E., there was a major earthquake, causing the top of the Phra Borommathat chedi to collapse. Luang Pho Kaew, the abbot of Wat Phra Borommathat at that time, was the head of the renovation and repair, as seen today.
