Wat Mahawan, the legend of Phra Rod, 1000 years old, Lamphun Province

#Winter travel destinations - Wat Mahawan or Wat Mahawanaram was established in 1200 B.E. as the royal temple of Queen Chamadevi. She brought the stone to enshrine. It is a large sandstone inscription in the shape of a leaf sema, with ancient Mon script and the Mon language, dating back to the 17th–18th Buddhist century. The stone mentions the invitation of Tachuarahathipani, who was likely a highly respected monk at that time, to Lamphun and made merit together with the ruler and high-ranking officials. The inscription mentions the construction of a pagoda with a niche, the donation of land, money, gold, and slaves, and most importantly, the names of two Buddha images. The temple received the royal charter of the boundary markers in 1894 B.E. - The pagoda of Wat Mahawan enshrines Phra Rod Lamphun, one of the five oldest amulets in the Benjaphakee set. It is believed that Phra Rod is sacred and magical in terms of escaping danger and disaster, and is charming, popular, and brings wealth and invulnerability.
