Phra Yuen Temple, Lamphun

Wat Phra Yuen, Lamphun Province The pagoda of Wat Phra Yuen is in the Bagan style, built on a raised platform with decreasing levels. The upper circumambulation area has small pagodas at each corner. The chedi is square with protruding pavilions on all four sides. Above the chedi is a sloping roof supporting a set of bases with a bell-shaped top. According to legend, Phraya Kuena invited Phra Sumana Thera from Sukhothai to Chiang Mai. They stayed at Wat Phra Yuen in Hariphunchai, where there was already a standing Buddha at that time. However, the area was a forest, so Phraya Kuena ordered people to clear the land and build three more standing Buddha statues. One was facing west, one was facing north, and one was facing south.
