#summervacay I kept seeing Lake Como pop up on my feed, and since my itinerary had me in Milan anyway, I thought I'd pop over. After realizing each little town had its own unique charm, I decided to slow down and stay a night. Best decision ever! Varenna: The Convenient Gateway Varenna is super convenient, with frequent trains from Milan, making it the easiest entry point to the Lake Como area. Naturally, it's quite popular with tourists, and yes, the ferry queue at the pier was definitely long. The lakeside is dotted with stunning villas, many of them belonging to famous adventurers of the past. I didn't get to see the famous wisteria-covered gate that's so popular with influencers, as it wasn't the right season. However, I opted to visit Villa Monastero (which cost €12), and it was lovely! Full of tropical plants, it felt like a delightful lakeside excursion. Bellagio: My Evening Retreat I chose Bellagio for my overnight stay, arriving by ferry in the afternoon to avoid the peak crowds. I found a lakeside restaurant and just quietly watched the intense summer sun soften into a gentle glow. As evening set in, this usually bustling, commercial town grew wonderfully quiet, with only people leisurely sipping drinks outdoors.
