Kyoto's Hidden Cherry Blossom Spots—Escape the Crowds! 🌸

#cherryblossom25 If you're in Kyoto during early April for cherry blossom season, and you're looking to avoid the crowds at popular spots like Daigo-ji, Honman-ji, Rokkaku-do, Kodaiji, and Maruyama Park, I've got two less crowded and serene places for you to enjoy full-bloom weeping cherry trees (shidarezakura). 🏯✨ Here’s a quick guide to two off-the-beaten-path sakura locations you’ll love! 📸 1. Jōhin Rendaiji Temple (上品蓮台寺) Location: Near Yammon Cherry Blossom Feature: The weeping cherry tree near the main gate creates a peaceful and picturesque scene, especially with its branches gently cascading along a small path leading to the entrance. The blossoms create a magical atmosphere, making it perfect for photos. The temple itself is a historic gem, founded by Prince Shotoku in the 7th century and rebuilt after the Onin War thanks to support from influential figures like Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Best Photo Spot: The first photo location near the entrance where the tree’s delicate branches hang over the walkway. 🌸 2. Suika Tenmangu Shrine (水火天満宮) Location: Not far from Jōhin Rendaiji Temple Cherry Blossom Feature: Suika Tenmangu is one of Japan’s oldest Tenmangu shrines, dedicated to the spirit of Sugawara no Michizane, the scholar deity. It’s a peaceful shrine that attracts fewer tourists, making it a quiet spot to appreciate the beauty of the pink weeping cherry blossoms. The atmosphere here is serene and sacred, with locals visiting for prayers, especially for protection against disasters. Bonus: The shrine offers unique charms, including a special cat and dog-themed omamori (good luck charms), which are hard to find elsewhere. If you're lucky, you might find one as a souvenir. Best Photo Spot: The beautiful weeping cherry tree near the entrance, with its soft pink blossoms standing out. 🐾🌸 One-Day Kyoto Cherry Blossom Itinerary: Start at Jōhin Rendaiji Temple: Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and capture photos of the weeping cherry tree along the path. Walk to Suika Tenmangu Shrine: Visit the serene shrine with its beautiful cherry blossoms and maybe even pick up a cat or dog omamori if you're lucky! End the day with a stroll through local areas near the temples, soaking in the tranquility and beauty of Kyoto’s quieter sakura spots. Key Information: Free Entry to both locations Best Time to Visit: Late March to early April, when the trees are in full bloom. How to Get There: Both temples are easily accessible by bus or taxi from Kyoto Station, with a 15-20 minute walk between them. #travel
