Follow the Red Gates

One of the most iconic Shinto shrines in Kyoto is the Fushimi Inari Shrine, known for its thousands of torii gates. We were surprised at just how large the area is and how long the trails are - we spent over two hours hiking up and down the hills, following the bright red gates and passing by many small shrines. We arrived late in the afternoon and were lucky to catch the sun setting over Kyoto at a lookout point on the hill. #timetotravel #japan #kyoto #shintoshrine
