There are so many water towns in Jiangnan, and any one of them is beautiful

✨Located between Suzhou and Hangzhou, Huzhou has an ancient town called Nanxun, similar to Wuzhen, Tongli, and Xitang, with the same small bridges and flowing water, the same Jiangnan charm. The difference is that there are not many tourists here, so you can leisurely stroll around. 🌲The ancient town is roughly oriented from north to south, with a waterway running through the middle. There are several attractions on both sides, some of which charge an entrance fee, while others are free. The ancient town itself is free. 🏡From the southern Xiaolian Manor heading north, the Zhang Shiming Former Residence is recommended. The ancient architecture inside is exquisite and beautiful, full of Jiangnan style. 🔔Further north, there is Guanghui Palace, a Taoist temple that enshrines the Yellow Immortal, not the one from the northeast, but a local human-shaped Yellow Immortal from Jiangnan. The temple has no entrance fee and is free to enter. ⛲️Heading north along the water, then east, there are Yiyuan and Dongyuan, two adjacent gardens that are typical southern gardens, luxurious and exquisite, with a long-lasting charm. 🏠At the northernmost part of the ancient town is Baijianlou, a row of old Jiangnan-style houses along the river, offering a very typical Jiangnan ancient town scenery. It is free, and there are many restaurants and homestays along the river where you can taste local delicacies. This is my personal favorite spot to visit. 🌲Overall, the ancient town has many attractions, but I personally think that from south to north, Xiaolian Manor—Zhang Shiming Former Residence—Guanghui Palace—Yiyuan—Dongyuan—Baijianlou, these spots are the most worth visiting. 🔔By the way, I highly recommend taking a boat ride at night to tour the ancient town. In the night, sitting on a small boat swaying on the water of Jiangnan, with the lights and bustling crowds on both sides, it feels like a dream back to the Song Dynasty. 🎫The night boat ticket is 50 yuan per person, with an 8-person small boat that departs when full. The time is from 17:00 to 20:30, and the route is from Xiaolian Manor to Guanghui Bridge. I went during the Dragon Boat Festival, and there were many people. The night boat was almost not enough, so it is recommended to buy tickets in advance. 🍽️As for food, there are many places to eat in the ancient town, including chain restaurants, specialty restaurants, and various local eateries. The local specialty silver fish scrambled eggs is recommended, it's delicious. 🌽Additionally, in the Baijianlou area, there are various private kitchens. There is a shop run by an old grandpa and grandma that makes delicious stir-fried yellow beef.
