The base camp for climbing Mount Kinabalu is located in Panalaban, also known as Laban Rata, which is located at an altitude of 3273 meters above sea level. Timpohon Gate is the final hurdle before the proper summit trail begins for climbers to seize Mount Kinabalu peak and the distance from Timpohon Gate to the summit (Low's Peak) is about 8.72 kilometers.
