Kulangsu Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Gulangyu Island Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
I just came back from Xiamen, and it was fantastic! Let me share my genuine feelings with you
🌦️Weather Notice: The temperature in March and April is quite comfortable, but there are many rainy days. Friends who come to Xiamen should be mentally prepared.
🏨Accommodation Recommendation:
I suggest staying on Xiamen Island, especially in hotels from the train station to Zhongshan Road, which are more convenient for travel. It's best to choose hotels near the subway, as most of the scenic spots in Xiamen are on the island.
🚆Transportation Strategy:
If you take a high-speed train to Xiamen, it is recommended to get off at 'Xiamen Station', which is more convenient as it's in the city center. If you get off at 'Xiamen North', you can take a bus or subway line 1 to the island. Gaoqi Airport is also on the island, and you can take a bus or airport shuttle after leaving the airport.
🍜Food Recommendation:
Xiamen is mainly known for its Minnan cuisine, snacks, and seafood. The food in Xiamen is relatively sweet and light, which may not be suitable for those who like spicy food. There are particularly many taro-based dishes (for specific food recommendations, please see my food guide).
🌊Attractions Recommendation:
Actually, the main reason to visit Xiamen is to see the sea. The weather is very important for sea viewing; if the weather is good, the sea will be very blue and beautiful. Below are the places I think you must visit: Huangcuo Beach - Wan Yue Po, Health Trail Linhai Line, Pearl Bay - Zengcuo'an Music Square, Jiahe Park - Ten-mile Long Embankment - Jimei School Village, Shangli Reservoir, Guanyinshan Beach, Zhonggu Cableway, Shapowei - Twin Towers - Yanwu Bridge.
🏝️Gulangyu, remember to buy tickets in advance, and it is recommended to reserve a whole day for it. The island is suitable for leisurely strolls. For strategies about Gulangyu, you can see the introduction on my homepage.
⚠️Points to Avoid:
The specialty stores on Zhongshan Road are traps, and it is not recommended to buy anything there;
There are many rip-offs in the Zengcuo'an commercial street, most of which are not delicious, really do not go there to eat; the homestays in Zengcuo'an mostly do not match the pictures at all, it is really not recommended to stay in homestays;
Do not trust the so-called native guides or taxi drivers on the street, they are deceivers; many seafood vendors in the Eighth Market will rip you off, short-weigh or switch products, be very careful when eating seafood, it is recommended to reweigh it at the market entrance;
Do not drive by yourself, as parking is hard to find in Xiamen and it is very congested during holidays. If you are driving to Xiamen, it is more convenient to park your car at the hotel and take a taxi or subway.
🗺️Travel Route:
Day1: Arrive in Xiamen ➡️ Eighth Market ➡️ Zhongshan Road;
Day2: Nanputuo ➡️ Shapowei ➡️ Xiamen University White City ➡️ Pearl Bay ➡️ Music Square ➡️ Xitou Xia ➡️ Huangcuo Beach ➡️ Yefengzhai ➡️ Guanyinshan (all on the Island Ring Road);
Day3: One-day tour of Gulangyu;
Day4: Zhonggu Cableway ➡️ Botanical Garden ➡️ Health Trail Linhai Line;
Day5: Ten-mile Long Embankment ➡️ Dragon Boat Pool ➡️ Jiahe Park ➡️ Jimei Dasha ➡️ Shigu Road. Xiamen·Fujian
Xiamen 3-day 2-night travel guide suggestions to bookmark
Sharing my tips for a 3-day 2-night trip to Xiamen, for friends who are thinking of going there soon🌟
✈️Travel - Cost 1600💰(round trip)
◾️I left from Chengdu at the end of June, and the round-trip airfare was reasonable, but it might be a bit more expensive now due to the summer holidays
🏨Accommodation - Cost 1500💰(two nights)
◾️I stayed at the Ruiyi Hotel, which is close to Gulangyu Island. I chose a sea-view room, and the scenery was indeed nice with good value for money. The hotel was very popular, the only downside was that check-in was only available after 3 pm, so I had to wait half a day at the hotel, and to get takeout, I had to go to the parking lot at the back
🍽️Dining - Cost 1750💰(three days)
◾️Tianjie Fu Seafood Stall - 300💰: A must-visit restaurant, the place is small but the taste is really good, the seafood is fresh, and it's good value for money. I recommend the seafood roll and oyster pancake
◾️Zuiyi No.1 Seafood Stall - 750💰: Another must-visit restaurant, it seems to be more popular than Tianjie Fu, with a richer menu. Every dish is good, I recommend the lemon crab and ginger duck, but the spicy frog is just so-so
◾️Tangyan · Old Xiamen Private Kitchen - 350💰: A must-visit restaurant, featured in 'The Taste', many celebrities have dined here. I really recommend their yellow croaker with vermicelli, even as someone who doesn't like fish, I found it delicious. The soup is very fresh, and the crispy taro duck is also good (Zhao Lusi loves it too)
◾️Lychee Couple · Seafood Private Kitchen - 350💰: This one leans more towards private kitchen style, with a variety of dishes and stronger flavors. The cold fish belly is very tasty, and the pork bone tea is also good. Honestly, the number one ranked golden soup seafood stew was just average
🏝️Attractions - Cost 190💰(Gulangyu ferry ticket + attractions)
◾️Shapowei: A trendy spot for taking photos, with many stalls selling trinkets. There are some popular photo spots so it's quite crowded. Taking the elevator, you can take pictures at the Shapowei rainbow wall (you must muster the courage to take photos, as everyone below is watching you)
◾️Gulangyu: Buy ferry tickets in advance on 'Yu Jian Xiamen'. I bought a luxury boat VIP cabin, which was really comfortable on the way there, with no need to queue for security checks and direct access to the lounge with staff reception. The VIP cabin is comfortable, but the return trip was on a regular boat. To be honest, Xiamen is too hot, and it's really hard to walk around the island. I ended up paying 50 for a sightseeing car
◾️Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street: It's like many cities' snack and shopping streets, nice to stroll around, but the food is just so-so
✅Conclusion
Overall, Xiamen is a very suitable city for travel. If it doesn't rain, the scenery is really beautiful, the sky is very blue, but it's a bit hot recently. The locals are also very warm and hospitable. Chatting with many locals, everyone seems very nice. The food tastes are acceptable, and I will definitely go again if I have the chance, to visit other attractions that I didn't get to check out

Xinzhuang Garden Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Spring on Gulangyu Island.
All sisters coming to Gulangyu! Remember these 7 spots!
Gulangyu is really my favorite place in Xiamen. The island is very quiet, without the hustle and bustle of traffic.
Walking in the alleys, the air is particularly good.
You can see cats everywhere, green trees, red tiles, and various styles of villa architecture.
Leisurely wandering through the alleys of Minnan ancient houses, walking and stopping, it's really comfortable!
After staying in Xiamen for 7 years, every visit to Gulangyu brings a new surprise. Gulangyu is the must-visit attraction in Xiamen, without a doubt! The commercialized area is just the tourist commercial street, which accounts for less than 1/5 of Gulangyu. The other 4/5 is worth exploring slowly. The international architecture on Gulangyu is also very beautiful! It gathers thousands of historical buildings, including European-style consulates and foreign firms, as well as Southeast Asian-style villa mansions.
These places are highly recommended:
1️⃣ Shuzhuang Garden
Suzhou garden on the sea, worth the 30 yuan.
2️⃣ Catholic Church
Gothic church, occasionally with newlyweds getting married inside, very sacred.
3️⃣ Dadeji Bathing Beach
So beautiful, looks great in any photo, even on cloudy days it has a great atmosphere.
4️⃣ Organ Art Center
The largest organ in Asia, very impressive to hear live!
5️⃣ The Most Beautiful Corner
Crowded but indeed beautiful.
6️⃣ Gulangyu Coconut Grove
Not many people know about it!
There is a lonely big tree on the lawn, with many benches nearby. Sitting here basking in the sun is very pleasant, with the sounds of birds and waves in your ears.
7️⃣ Mini Beach
Very beautiful! You can see the sunset and the sparkling sea. Very few people, giving a sense of island solitude.
Perfect for relaxing and daydreaming, I love it.
I declare this is the most beautiful corner of Xiamen.
I declare this is the most beautiful corner of Xiamen🤩
Location: Gulangyu Dadeji Seaview Bathing Beach|Shuzhuang Garden
I love strolling around Gulangyu in the evening.
Every time I go to Gulangyu, I feel like I'm escaping from Xiamen.
It's quiet, no cars, only walking.
I feel like my whole being slows down.
Every second is very pleasant.
Shuzhuang Garden: A Dreamy Fairyland Amidst the Flowers.
Ticket Prices
Children/Elderly Half-Price Discount: $15
Adults: $30
Shuzhuang Garden is located on the southeast coast of Gulangyu Island, backed by Huangyan and facing the sea, with Haihua Garden to the east and Aberdeen to the west.
The entire garden is divided into two parts: Canghai Garden and Bushan Garden, each with five attractions. The five scenic spots of Canghai are Meishou Hall, Renqiu Pavilion, Zhen Shu Pavilion, Forty-Four Bridge, and Zhaoliang Pavilion. The five tourist spots of Bushan are Shishan House, Twelve Caves, Yi Ai House Road, Ting Chao Tower, and Xiao Lan Pavilion.
Half of the Twelve Heavenly Caves:
Upon entering this picturesque place, you will see a very charming maze-like flower viewing garden. The Twelve Caves are winding and easy to get lost in, like a small mountain labyrinth, full of fun, with passages that only allow one person to pass through. It is very suitable for exploring, looking for the twelve zodiac signs, or taking photos! But be careful! The steps are quite narrow.
Forty-Four Bridge:
It is said that the name of the bridge comes from the age of the owner, Lin Jia'er, when the bridge was built.
Appointed after the age of 44. On a sunny day, you can enjoy the scenery of the blue sea and sky, and the sparkling waves; when it rains, you can hear the sound of the waves. The winding stone bridge and steps are shaped like dragons and snakes. On the bridge, there are pillow stones, fish viewing platforms, Yue Pavilion, Qianbo Pavilion, Zhao Pavilion, etc. The cushion flow stone is very large, and it is engraved with Lin Erjia's 'Zhen Liu' ink marks. The bridge winds around the rocks, just like water being divided by rocks and then melted by rocks, with a unique flavor. On the bridge, the Duoyue Pavilion is the best spot in Shuzhuang Garden to enjoy the sea view.
Piano Museum:
The museum is divided into two floors, with no admission fee required, and photography with flash is prohibited inside. Touring the Piano Museum is like browsing through a century of piano development history, with many priceless pianos of various sizes from around the world, some even bizarrely shaped.
Must-visit Shuzhuang Garden and Piano Museum in Gulangyu
When traveling to Gulangyu, there is a garden that you must visit, which is the only private garden in the world that combines mountains, sea, and lake - Shuzhuang Garden.
If you only feel that this garden is not particularly large, you just walk around and want to go out after seeing the pianos in the Piano Museum inside, it would be a pity, because the more you look at this garden, the more exquisite it feels.
What impressed me the most is that Shuzhuang Garden flexibly uses the three techniques of 'hiding', 'borrowing', and 'trickery', making use of the natural terrain and scenery of Gulangyu, combined with artificial construction, to make up for the deficiencies of the mountain and sea scenery, and hide the sea by the mountain. Therefore, when you turn out of the moon gate and bypass the bamboo forest, you can see its true face, which can be described as a vast sea and sky in an instant.
What is particularly shocking is that going forward is the winding Forty-four Bridge. It is not to say that there are really forty-four bridges, but it refers to the age of Lin Erjia when this bridge was built, which was forty-four years old. There is a sluice gate under the stone bridge, which introduces seawater into the garden, forming three spaces of the sea, the outer pool, and the inner pool. The bridge body twists and turns, lying on the sea like a swimming dragon.
What you must not miss here is the Piano Museum in Shuzhuang Garden, which displays more than a hundred world-famous ancient pianos collected by Gulangyu's patriotic overseas Chinese Hu Youyi. Children and adults who play the piano must not miss it.
💕Tour guide:

Sunlight Rock Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
How to quickly find the niche attractions in Gulangyu~ Refuse 20,000 steps
Small islands are meant to be walked slowly, wherever you go, you can see beautiful flowers, cute cats, and schoolchildren, to discover the cuteness of Gulangyu.
🚢: You can choose to disembark at Sanqiu Tian Pier and Neicuo Ao Pier when you arrive at the pier. I chose the less crowded niche route, disembarking at Neicuo Ao Pier, walking through the small island, and spending a whole day returning to Sanqiu Tian Pier to take the return boat. For boat ticket reservations, search for 'Yu Jian Xiamen', remember to book in advance, there are quite a few tourists during the summer vacation.
First stop: Gulangyu Art Academy🎆
Although Gulangyu Art Academy is no longer used as a campus, it often hosts small events and various exhibitions. If you bought a map on the boat, you can get a stamp in the cultural and creative shop in the academy. There is also a hidden super beautiful spiral staircase here, which led me to meet Luo Xiaohei haha~
Second stop: Sunlight Rock🪨
You can see the whole view of Gulangyu, this place is super worth it, but it's a little bit hard to climb up. The top is completely exposed and it's very hot, everyone be careful not to get heatstroke.
Lunch: Delicious but expensive😢
Third stop: Organ Museum🎹
Here is the largest organ in Asia, there is a fixed performance time every day, I really like the sound of this big organ, the sound really starts to be described as majestic, if you are tired, you can come in and sit for a while.
Fourth stop: Catholic Church⛪️
There will be many newlyweds taking wedding photos nearby, the church itself is very imposing, we came when there were fewer people in the late afternoon, and sat quietly for a while.
Fourth stop: Gangzai Hou Seaside Bathing Beach🌊
There are many bay bathing areas in Gulangyu, you don't need to go to this one specifically, you must see the sea when you come to Xiamen, hehe, if you don't have time in Gulangyu, you can see it in other areas, don't worry~ Stay by the bay until it gets dark and start to go back
Breathtaking views at Sunlight Rock- Gulangyu
Sunlight Rock is one of the monuments on Gulangyu Island, and can immediately be seen as you approach the island by boat. It the tallest mountain on the island, and one can climb the steps to the top, to have a 360° view of Gulangyu and Xiamen. The setting is beautiful for photos, specifically at sunset.
During weekends and public holidays, it may be a little bit crowded to go to the top, so I would suggest going early, to avoid the traffic.
To get there, you would have to board a ferry at the Xiamen shipping wharf, to Gulangyu. Then you have to walk to the entrance gates of Sunlight rock (no cars on Gulangyu), using a map. The entrance fee is around 100¥.Then climb the steps to the top, and enjoy the beautiful view

Xiamen
It seems that I haven't recorded our brief visit to Xiamen yet. I should make a note of it, just in case I develop dementia in the future and forget about the grand meal a classmate from Xiamen treated us to. He can find this and call me out on it. (Flipped through the photos, really didn't capture what we ate at the feast.)
The first trip after the Spring Festival was to Xiamen. Why Xiamen? No particular reason, just that I had hoarded several hotel group purchase deals and chose one to use.
Spending the weekend, no need to be too deliberate.
The weather wasn't good when we went, it rained every day. But the rain in Xiamen is not like the plum rain season in Chongqing, which is endless and non-stop. I don't know if Xiamen has times when it rains incessantly, but during those days it would rain for a while and then stop, and the roads were very clean, so it felt okay.
However, when buying ferry tickets to Gulangyu, you can't just buy a plain ticket; you have to buy it with some bundled packages, which felt somewhat helpless. There are many places on Gulangyu that require admission tickets, which we didn't visit. Only spent money to go to Sunlight Rock, looked over the cityscape of Xiamen from there, and it was, well, okay.
People in Xiamen really know how to make money. Can't they learn to be more people-friendly like Rongjiang, Zibo, and Tianshui?
I like gardening, so I went to the botanical garden. For someone like me, I go there to see which plants I don't recognize, rather than which ones I do. There are so many flowers and plants in the south, and those who like flora usually pay attention and recognize many varieties, many of which I have grown myself. The rainforest area in the botanical garden is very photogenic.
Since a classmate treated us to a big meal, we didn't go to the Eighth Market to browse the seafood stores.
Such a trip is just about going out to see. There are beautiful sights everywhere in China, as long as you are willing to step out.
Will I go to Xiamen again? I haven't been to Jimei, Xiamen University, Binhai, or Zhongshan Road yet, maybe one day I'll see a flight and hotel deal and fly over again?
Going out for fun, it doesn't matter where you go. If you're with the right person, even walking around the neighborhood can be joyful.
Gulangyu
Gulangyu is a beautiful small island facing Xiamen across the Lujiang River, with a pleasant climate, birdsong and fragrant flowers. Many buildings have a strong European and American style, known as the 'Architecture Museum'. The view of Xiamen from Sunlight Rock is even more beautiful, blending history, culture, and natural landscapes into one.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Gulangyu was a well-known tourist destination nationwide, attracting countless visitors each year, all drawn by the island's beautiful environment.

Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
After all, tomorrow is another day.
Before the Ming Dynasty, Xiamen Island was called Jiaheyu Island. It was a small island on a lonely sea. Only Xue and Chens families were fishing here.
Ming Hongwu twenty-seven years, began to "Xiamen City" to Quanzhou Prefecture. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, Zheng Chenggong smashed his troops on the island and changed his name to Siming State. Based on this, he regained Taiwan across the strait and left the Shuizhai to perform martial arts and other sites.
Today, the Zheng Chenggong giant image on the other side of Lulangyu on the other side of Lujiang has become the god of typhoon that has been passed down by the people.
Qing Emperor Kangxi nineteen years, the Qing army occupied Siming State.
In the Republic of China, in 1920, Xiamen City introduced Nanyang Overseas Chinese to build a city, Kaiyuan Road, Datong Road, and Zhongshan Road were successively repaired. The "Five-footed" riding-style building, after nearly a hundred years, is still the old Xiamen City. Faded memory.
I walked through several old streets and walked and watched. The light and shadow in front of me, the secular life of the city, seems to be in the story of Xiamen in the Republic of China.

Organ Museum Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Organ Museum
The Organ Museum Park is based on the original Bagua Building, starting from Sanqiu Tian Wharf in the west and ending at Gulangyu Yacht Club in the east. The new museum of the Gulangyu Organ Museum, which was built to accommodate the giant pipe organ, is an important part of the park construction and is located in the middle of Gulangyu, facing the sea with mountains behind.
The types of organs in the Gulangyu Organ Museum are numerous, with large ones like the 6-meter-high Norman Bell pipe organ. The small ones are only the size of a suitcase, but they are small and complete.
For a long time, organs and pipe organs have been mainly used for religious music in Europe and America, and many church choirs use organs as the main instrument.
If you come to Xiamen, Fujian for a visit, you must experience the romantic charm of Gulangyu
Gulangyu, this quiet and beautiful island, is an indispensable tourist card in Xiamen. With its unique scenery, it attracts countless tourists to visit. On this small island, there are many attractions that make people linger.
Sunlight Rock is the highest peak of Gulangyu. From here, you can overlook the entire island and enjoy the magnificent scenery. Standing on the rock, you can take in the whole island, the sea and sky in the distance and the green vegetation at your feet complement each other, forming a beautiful picture.
Shuzhuang Garden is another kind of enjoyment. This is a garden with Jiangnan garden style, with exquisite architecture and charming landscape. Tourists can feel the charm of ancient Chinese gardens here and appreciate the different flowers and trees in the four seasons.
The Organ Museum is a building full of artistic atmosphere. It displays different types of organs from all over the world, each with its unique sound and history. Tourists can listen to wonderful music here and feel the charm of the organ.
In addition to these attractions, Gulangyu has many buildings worth visiting. Haitian Tang shows the style of Minnan architecture and is full of historical atmosphere. Bagua Building is a building that integrates Chinese tradition and European style, showing the charm of Gulangyu's multiculturalism. The National Consulate is a 19th-century European-style building that has witnessed the historical changes of Gulangyu.
On Gulangyu, there are also many petty bourgeoisie shops. These shops are full of literary style and are very suitable for taking pictures. Tourists can taste local delicacies here, buy special souvenirs, and enjoy leisure time.
In general, Gulangyu is a place full of charm and history. The scenery, culture, art, and architecture here make this island a dream tourist destination for many people. Here, you can feel the tranquility, appreciate the beautiful scenery, and experience different cultural styles.
Tour Xiamen Gulangyu Island, in addition to Sunlight Rock, Xinzhuang Garden and other sightseeing places, the organ museum is also very interesting. The museum houses a collection of luxury organes from around the world.
There is a 35-ton organ called "Keswent", a rare treasure designed and built by the Dutch in the 1950s. The organ is like an open cabinet with more than a dozen instruments. Arranged, behind the electronic organ and a large number of ducts, as long as the power is plugged in, this "rare treasure" will automatically play beautiful music. Because a variety of instruments sound together, it sounds like a big band playing, very shocking.
Because of the "King of the King", this giant organ has always been the number one star in the museum. Visitors have been here for the longest time, and many tourists have also joined the accordion.
In addition to the giant organ, there are many other types of organ in the museum, such as the accordion and the pedal organ. The organ in the
Gulangyu Organ Museum has a common owner named Hu Youyi before entering the museum. He not only contributed a lot of rare and precious organs to the organ museum, but also contributed to the mature project of the piano museum project in the Xinzhuang Garden. The
Gulangyu Organ Museum has both a giant organ and a small organ that is only the size of a suitcase. Different organs are produced in different countries and years. Relatively speaking, they are relatively smaller than the most accepted organ sizes today. There are more, but the value of the collection is not as high as the antique organ.
Gulangyu Island in Xiamen is not a sacred place for literary and art youth, even the museum has such a tone. The Gulangyu Organ Museum is located in the famous gondola building of Gulangyu Island. The various organ instruments are so fascinating that even the people who dont understand music can feel the art here. I have been here, have you been here?
