Sarawak in Every Shade: Golden Skies, Ancient Roots, Living Nature

My journey through Sarawak was a blend of culture, history, nature, and unforgettable sunsets. It began with a river cruise along the Sarawak River, where the evening sky slowly turned golden and the silhouettes of iconic landmarks — the State Legislative Assembly, Darul Hana Bridge, and the Astana — stood majestically against the horizon. The next stop was the Sarawak Cultural Village, or Kampung Budaya, where I was welcomed into the heart of Sarawak’s many ethnic traditions. Walking through the longhouses, listening to traditional music, watching cultural performances, and seeing the intricate crafts firsthand gave me a deep appreciation of the people and their heritage. Curiosity then led me to the Borneo Cultures Museum, a modern and impressive space that brought Sarawak’s past to life. From ancient artifacts to contemporary exhibits, it felt like stepping into a living encyclopedia of the land’s rich history and diverse communities. To round off the trip, I ventured out on a Santubong wildlife boat cruise. Here, nature staged a magical performance — Irrawaddy dolphins surfacing playfully in the oveam, while proboscis monkeys lounged and leapt across mangrove trees. Watching wildlife in their natural habitat was both calming and awe-inspiring, reminding me how wild and alive Sarawak truly is. From golden sunsets and cultural treasures to fascinating museums and rare wildlife, Sarawak gave me memories that were equal parts soulful and spectacular. ✨
