In the old days, Alor Street was the Malaysian version of the red light district and, as a result, had a dubious reputation. Now it’s known as a place where gourmets and gluttons flock. If you get here during the day, you will be disappointed because the street vendors only start showing up when the sun goes down. With the onset of evening, the street changes its appearance and turns into a real beehive. Vendors here usually focus on selling one specialty that has been perfected over the years. Expect the food to be tasty but modest, and you will have to dine on the sidewalk, sitting on a plastic chair at a plastic table.
