Thanks to air Asia we have ended or begun several Asian trips from Kuala Lumpur. There isn't any country in south east Asia that can be as culturally diverse as Malaysia. The food is the best in Asia with a rich mix of Chinese Indian and Malay. Another wonderful thing about Malaysia is it's cost effectiveness. We have had 5 star stays in Kuala Lumpur for what would be bread and breakfast guesthouses in America. The people are friendly and thanks to oil money, it is developed as well.
