75 million year old shell cemetery

The 75-million-year-old Shell Cemetery is located at Ban Laem Pho, Sai Thai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Krabi Province. It is an important fossil site in Thailand. Although the name indicates that it is 75 million years old, geological studies indicate that the fossils of freshwater shells here are approximately 40 million years old.   The Shell Cemetery area consists of large stone slabs formed from the accumulation of many freshwater shells in the Tertiary period. These stone slabs look like cement slabs protruding into the sea, and the shells embedded inside can be clearly seen.  This Shell Cemetery is one of the rare geological tourist attractions in the world, especially the fossils of freshwater shells from the Tertiary period, which are found in only a few places.
