Bangkok Crossroad of The World: Khao San

#bangkoktrip The legendary Khao San Road in Bangkok serves as a transit base for independent travelers planning trips to Thailand and neighboring countries. Here you can easily find not only a place to stay overnight, but also find travel companions for joint trips. Within walking distance from Khao San Road there is a Large Royal Palace, the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, the temple of the Golden Mountain (Wat Saket) and other attractions. Street agencies offer a wide range of excursions around the city, the surrounding area and remote provinces, as well as individual and group tours to the islands. In the 1980s, when the capital was experiencing its first tourist boom, Khaosan Road was chosen by hippies and backpackers from all over the world. The exotic surroundings, cheap housing, an abundance of delicious food and a well-developed transport service that allows you to go anywhere in Southeast Asia have made the street popular with adherents of a free lifestyle. The philosophy of Buddhism harmoniously merged into the worldview of the new nomads of the 20th century. Worldwide fame came to Khao San Road after the release of the film "The Beach" starring Leonardo DiCaprio in 2000. According to the scenario of the adventure drama, the hero goes in search of the lost paradise island from Khaosan Road. The popularity caused by the screening of the film has led to an increase in tourist flow and an increase in prices, but Khao San Road still remains the most budget accommodation option in Bangkok. During the day, the street looks like an ordinary clothing market. The transformation takes place at dusk: bright neon lights of buildings light up, nightclubs and go-go bars open, barkers invite passers-by to look into entertainment venues, try fried scorpions, get a tattoo or sew a suit from Indian tailors. DJs and musicians turn on the acoustic equipment at full capacity. Stationary and mobile food outlets offer a varied menu with Asian and European dishes.
