Kaunas is underated

#europetrip When I decided to visit the city of Kaunas in central Lithuania, I knew quite little about the things to see and do in Kaunas. I mainly included it in my Baltic itinerary because visiting diverse destinations matters to me, and I was curious to see Lithuania’s second-largest city. Kaunas is located near the center of the country, making it an easy place to reach in Lithuania.It is a walkable city and the public bus only cost very little to move around. Even though Kaunas isn’t a huge city or a famous destination, it has a broad selection of places to stay. From the modern center through to its old town, you’ll find hotels, apartments, and more, often at quite reasonable prices. Kaunas is also a great destination for food lovers with a delicious restaurant scene. In Kaunas you can try different Lithuanian dishes like the cepelinai potato dumplings or cold beetroot soup. Things to do in Kaunas Kaunas castle The Kaunas castle has a scenic location at the confluence of the Nemunas and Neris rivers. This is where the city of Kaunas began as early as the tenth century when people settled at the elevated banks of the river. Kaunas Old town The Old town in Kaunas is small and compact, but packs a bunch of things to see and do. There are several old churches and lots of elegant architecture. Add in some great restaurants and cafes and you could easily spend your afternoon wandering around the old town of Kaunas with frequent breaks to drink a cup of tea. Kaunas Town hall square At the center of the old town in Kaunas is the town hall square. In my opinion, it is one of the most picturesque places in Kaunas. The town hall dates from the 16th century and is in Baroque and Classicist style.
