[Total construction cost 38 billion yen!?] Echizen Great Buddha

Do you know the Echizen Great Buddha? In 1987, Kiyoshi Tada, a businessman from Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture, invested his own money to build the Great Buddha, at a total cost of 38 billion yen. It was originally intended for tourism, but in 2002 it became a religious corporation as a temple of the Myoshinji school of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism. It is not a historical building, but it is 17 meters tall, has a 23 meter halo, and is built on a 2 meter stone base with a 3 meter lotus pedestal, so its total height is 28 meters, which is higher than the Great Buddha of Nara. The 1281 Buddhas of different shapes are enshrined around it, which is a spectacular sight. The building and grounds are beautiful, and despite the vastness of the grounds, it is well-maintained and not a single dead leaf has fallen. It is hard to believe that it once went bankrupt due to financial difficulties. You can also take an elevator to the five-story pagoda and look down on the Katsuyama cityscape while feeling the pleasant breeze.
