Himalayan Charm in Kathmandu 🏔️ 🇳🇵

Getting There: ✈️ The main gateway to Nepal is Tribhuvan International Airport. There are direct flights from many cities, including Delhi, Kunming, Bangkok, and Doha. 🚕 It’s easy to take a taxi from the airport to your accommodation in Kathmandu, but I’d recommend asking your hotel to arrange one for you as it can be quite overwhelming! Attractions: Kathmandu really surprised me! The city is bustling and there is so much to do and see! Tours can be booked through your accommodation but it’s also to do it yourself! If you haven’t already, download Pathao (Nepal’s version of Uber!) Here are my favorite places in Kathmandu if you are doing a DIY tour: ✅ 1️⃣ Thamel - More than likely your hotel will be in Thamel! It’s quite touristy but it’s also very fun to walk around. I had a really good time getting lost amongst the countless alleys and browsing the many souvenir shops. There are also some really nice cafes you can try! 2️⃣ Kathmandu Durbar Square - You can’t visit Kathmandu and not visit this square! I loved it here, particularly early in the morning when it’s not so busy! Bring your camera and get ready for a cultural experience as there are several museums located here! 3️⃣ Swoyambhu Mahachaitya - A beautiful temple known to tourists as the monkey temple! There are hundreds of monkeys and as long as you keep your distance, they are super friendly! 4️⃣ Bhaktapur Durbar Square - Bhaktapur is a bit of a jaunt outside of Kathmandu! You’ll need to take a cab. But it was one of my favorite spots! There’s a lot of culture and it’s calmer! Many rooftop restaurants surround the square where you can enjoy amazing views at cheap prices! 5️⃣ Patan Durbar Square - Another Durbar Square lies 5km south of Thamel! It’s easy to reach and probably one of the most recognizable places for tourists! 6️⃣ Indra Chowk - A local market area of Kathmandu! It’s chaotic and bursting with life. A labyrinth of alleys spread out in all directions and each one has shops, cafes and restaurants! Hotels: 🏨 Ananta Home - Located on a side street in Thamel away from the hustle and bustle, but also conveniently located. The breakfast is fantastic and the rooms are very clean! I asked for a quiet room and they gave me a room on the top floor with a fabulous view and no neighboring rooms! I can’t recommend this hotel enough! Food & Restaurants - Recommending food is quite hard as a lot of the local restaurants didn’t have names. I would reccomend trying anywhere as long as it’s not empty! Here are a few places I enjoyed! 🍲 1. Green Villy Restaurant 2. Pumpernickel Bakery 3. Thakali Kitchen 4. Roadhouse Cafe 5. Golden Gate Guest House Rooftop Restaurant 6. Himalayan Java Cafe After spending five short days in Kathmandu, it has become one of my favorite cities. It’s a city full of amazing people, sights, and food!
