Hidden Historical Architecture in Xinxing District, Kaohsiung

Originally the villa of Ohtani Kozui, the head of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism in Japan, it was used as a residence for military dependents after the war and was declared a historical building in 2010. The architectural complex is a blend of Western and traditional Japanese styles. Besides serving as a summer villa for the owner, it was also an experimental farm for tropical plants, making its layout unique compared to other contemporary Japanese colonial buildings. The interior space primarily uses Taiwanese yellow cypress as the main building material, with some ceilings made of bamboo or wood weaving. The unique material combination adds a distinctive style and a cooler ambiance.
