It is said that Minamoto no Yoritomo built the foundations of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine at its current location✨ It is also said that Yabusame, one of the samurai cultures, originated here at Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine! The main shrine is located at the top of the large stone steps on the main approach. It is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan and is very impressive! In addition, on both sides of the Zuishinmon Gate, the symbol of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, sit Zuishin, warriors who served as guards for aristocrats from the Heian period onwards! The Agata statue with its mouth open and the Ungata statue with its mouth closed🏹 There are only a handful of shrines in the country that have Zuishin statues instead of Nio! There is a famous drum bridge, which is also known as the path of the gods, and a pebble that appears in the national anthem "Kimigayo" on the banks of the Genpei Pond.
