Lam Pao Dam, Kalasin Province

Lam Pao Dam is a large earthen dam and a famous tourist attraction of Kalasin, located in Sahatsakhan District, Kham Muang District, and Yang Talat District, approximately 36 kilometers from Kalasin Province. Lam Pao Dam is an earthen dam 33 meters high from the water level, with a 7.8 meter long and 8 meter wide crest. Construction began in 1963 and was completed in 1968 to block the Lam Pao River and Huai Yang at Ban Nong Song Hong, Lam Pao Subdistrict, Mueang Kalasin District, resulting in twin reservoirs to the north of the dam. A trench was dug to connect the two reservoirs, which can store 1,430 million cubic meters of water. It was built to alleviate flooding and specifically for agriculture. Currently, Lam Pao Dam is a fish breeding ground and has places for relaxation, including Hat Dok Ket on the bank of Lam Pao Dam on the east side of the Lam Pao Water Supply and Maintenance Project reception house. It is a terraced beach down to the dam. It is quite spacious and has been renovated into a relaxation area by installing mushroom-shaped pavilions. The reason it is called "Hat Dok Ked" is because there are "Karaked" trees, which are native trees, planted mixed with other trees in groups. When the flowers bloom, they give off a fragrant smell. Hat Dok Ked is like a beach paradise for the Isan people. During the holidays, there will be people coming as families, alone, in groups, or as couples, heading to Hat Dok Ked to spend time with their families, friends, and loved ones during the holidays. In the evening, it is a good time to come for a walk, relax, and enjoy the view along the dam and enjoy the cool breeze.
