The tackiness of Xiaosi was beyond my expectations!
The ancient town of Xiaosi in Kaili City, Qiandongnan Prefecture, Guizhou Province, is the most recommended spot to visit in domestic ancient towns. With a history of over 600 years, it is known as the 'Hometown of World-Famous Dogs', 'Hometown of Chinese Dragon Boat Champions', and has been reputed as 'Little Shanghai'.
I prefer the quiet decay over the bustling scene.
I have a special fondness for the pristine state of Xiaosi Ancient Town.
Beyond the years eloquently narrated by the natural landscape and the context of the Miao and Dong ethnic groups' habitats,
The flowing streams reflect the mottled and fragmented days, timeless and without beginning or end.

There are more than 2,100 people in the Lisha people, which is a branch of the black scorpion. It is said to be the descendant of the third son of Chiyou. Their ancestors fled to settle here, and the hardships and beliefs made them unique. The people of Zhangsha worship the forest and think that the soul of the ancestors is attached to the tree. As a result, rare species that have grown for hundreds of years can be found everywhere in the village. In order to protect the forest, the ancestors set the rules, and the man had to keep a long hair on his head. The Shasha man loves to arm, and he will bring a waist knife and a shotgun when he goes out. In order to respect their customs, the relevant departments approved a special approval to allow each of the sands men to have a shotgun. But how many mysterious stories are there in the sands, no one can make it clear...
Men carry seven pieces of equipment: firearms, wine cellars, machete, pipe, gunpowder gourd, purse, flower bag, After pondering, this equipment can be regarded as just having softness. The flower bag is probably sent by the sweetheart, and the combination of embroidery and dyeing is quite fine. The gun was squatting on the shoulder, the flower bag was slanting back, and the other equipment of the wine cellar machete was neatly hung on the waistband of the belt; wearing a black high-waisted coat with a rounded copper buckle on the left and right, a large trousers with straight legs, and a pair of big feet; Resolute and generous, holding the vertebrae on the top of his head, wrapped around a strip of headscarf, and escaped from a Warring States warrior.
Tucked away in the embrace of the mountains lies the village of Basha Miao Village
Although it is only 5-6 kilometers away from Congjiang County, it is hidden deep in the mountains, isolated from the world for generations, and continues its unique ethnic culture intact.
Basha Miao Village has also become the only legally armed tribe remaining in China.
Legend has it that the ancestor of the Miao people, Chiyou, had three sons, and the people of Basha are the descendants of the third son. After Chiyou was defeated by the Yellow Emperor, he led the tribe on a thousand-year-long march to the southwest, and finally chose to settle here, where the lineage has thrived to this day.
The Basha people hold a special reverence for trees, worshipping them as deities. 'Humans come from nature and return to nature; born without a thread, die without taking a piece of wood.' is the common belief among the Basha people.

In Basha, the Miao language calls the Lusheng Festival 'Nugaka'.
During the Lusheng Festival, the people of Basha celebrate the harvest days,
and it is also a romantic time for young people to express their feelings, exchange emotions, and communicate with each other.
On this day, everyone plays the lusheng to worship the eastern slope,
praying for the blessing of the ancestors~
The sound of the lusheng echoes through the mountains,
and once again, we are moved by the faith and traditional culture of the Miao people!
If you come to Guizhou,
Basha is a Miao village that is very worth visiting!
Located in the lofty mountains of Congjiang County in Qiandongnan Prefecture,
it is primitive, mysterious, simple, and natural.
The rite of passage for boys here starts with a sickle and an axe, where experienced elders shave the boys' heads with a curved sickle in just a few strokes, marking the distinctive Basha Miao male hairstyle, an ancient and unique custom.
The Miao people of Basha dress in bright cloth as the base, with colorful embroidered decorations and silver ornaments throughout, both gorgeous and sacred~
Don't miss this interesting and ancient village when you come to Guizhou!

Peaceful Nanhua Miao-Village in Kaili
Nanhua Miao village in Kaili (Guizhou) is one of the villages quite close to the city. It's small and not very developed, so you can see the real Miao village life without many toutists.
📍It's on the South side of Kaili, with car or bus only 10-15km and less than half an hour ride. Busses leave from Kaili old bus station, easier is to rent your own car. Actually you can even take a taxi, as it's close to Kaili.
🏞️ What to do in Nanhua?
Walk the village, see some handcraft, eat local food and enjoy the green scenery with villages, river and green hills and mountains.
🏨 You can sleep in the village(s) or go back to Kaili town. Better book on Trip, because some hotels in Kaili only accept guests with Chinese ID card.

Nanhua Miao Village, Miao language Nangl hjib, as the name suggests, "flower" is "Ouhua River", "South" Miao language means "downstream of the river" meaning, "South Flower" is the Miao Village living in the lower reaches of the Ouhua River There are more than 500 years of history. Look at the pavement made of stone and cobblestones. There is a piece of stone wall made of bluestone on the roadside. There is no cement mortar, it is all by stone, and it is as natural as a rock. The wooden shacks are a patchwork of wooden shacks, lined up in the green hills halfway up the mountain. There are no crowds, some are just a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. There are several inns in the village, and the village is completely local. In the place of life, the villagers enjoyed the afternoon leisurely.
The Nanhua Miao Village, not far from the Langde Miao Village, is built on the hillside, and the hanging feet are layered on top of each other, nestled among the lush forests. At this time, Miao Village can see the Hmong people who work hard and the original Miao customs, as well as the landscape of the pastoral scenery!
In fact, Nanhua Miao Village and Langde Miao Village are the first batch of stockades to develop tourism, but now Xijiang Miao Village has far more fame than them. There are fewer and fewer tourists coming here, and many tourists are slowly forgetting. This beautiful little stockade, but also let this stockade return to the strong Miao nationality.
is a little smaller than Langde Miao Village, there are not many buildings, all built on the mountain, the air is fresh, in Nanhua Miao Village, most of the young and middle-aged are going out to work, leaving only a little older Old people and children, they are farming at home, self-sufficient, like to see how they work in front of their own home, more real and meaningful.
There is basically no tourist in Nanhua, and there is no commercialization. The whole village is particularly quiet. There is no selling sound here, there is no loud noise of sound broadcasting, only the laughter of children running in the alley, There is a soft chatter among the elderly under the roof. It is like a paradise that has not been cleaned.
Feel the purest original Miao culture here and really don't want to leave.
Although he is not as old as the Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, he has a profound original Miao culture. It is also because of the current life of the Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village in 2008, which has made the South Huamiao Village, which used to be a busy city, gradually forgotten. Because of this, here Back to the original look, it happens to be more quiet and comfortable. If you want to experience the original Miao life, then here is your best choice, throwing away the noisy and hustle and bustle
suddenly rising. I saw four people looking out into the distance from the window upstairs. The age should be a student. The kind of light and light look is fascinating. I hope you and I are at

Leli Villa Designer Homestay (Kaili South High-speed Railway Station) Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Is this the treasure homestay you're looking for?
Le Li Homestay, a homestay that makes me linger!
Every corner is exquisite, and any random shot is photogenic!
It's apparent that the owner is a person of great taste, from the overall design of the homestay to the fresh flowers in the lobby, the coffee shop, the chairs in the corners, and the aromatherapy, all exuding sophistication.
The facilities in the room are also very complete, stylishly furnished, and equipped with a washing machine, dryer, and even thoughtfully prepared non-woven bags. Awesome!
The homestay is just five minutes from the high-speed train station, very close and convenient. Just a short walk away is a food street, which foodies will absolutely love. Most importantly, the hustle and bustle of the food festival doesn't affect my rest, which is delightful.
The service is also superb! After checking in, they will send us local food recommendations, as well as suggestions for nearby attractions. For a lazy traveler like me, this is incredibly considerate. The butler can also give us advice and help plan our trip, wow, amazing! And they offer free high-speed train transfers! So thoughtful!
And the breakfast is also rich, with fresh fruit, freshly cooked noodles, free-range chicken porridge, milk, soy milk, and homemade dried radishes, which are perfect with the porridge!
When I visited during the Dragon Boat Festival, there were also local specialty zongzi. At that moment, I felt the festive atmosphere! Really, I could cry!
Oh, and there's afternoon tea too, the cakes are delicious and well-presented! Very exquisite! They also gave us a goodnight dessert, which was freshly made, and having a bowl of cool mung bean soup in the summer is just too blissful. After a day out, coming back to a bowl of cool mung bean soup before sleeping is so comfortable!
I came alone, and the ladies were very enthusiastic, I didn't feel awkward at all, it was very comfortable to be around them.
In a nutshell, coming here is a win! Everyone, go for it!

Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Instead of Xijiang, I recommend a more niche secret spot for the May Day holiday
Wow! Compared to the bustling Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, my bestie recommended an amazing place for the May Day holiday—Guizhou's Xiaosi Ancient Town! This place has few people but beautiful scenery, it's like a hidden treasure waiting for you to explore!
Xiaosi Ancient Town is located 28 kilometers southwest of Kaili City in the Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture of Guizhou Province, and it's also over 180 kilometers from Guiyang. Whether you're driving yourself or chartering a car, it's super convenient! Plus, the entrance is free, but you'll need to pay 20 yuan each for the Yangming Academy and Yuwang Palace experience tickets.
This little-known ancient town of a thousand years is like a dazzling pearl on the banks of the Qingshui River! It hasn't been 'polluted' by excessive commercialization, and still retains the super simple enthusiasm of the local people and a deep historical heritage! There are so many characteristic attractions here, like the Lusheng Square, Drum Tower, Opera Stage, Ancient Wharf, and the unique traditional stilted buildings. Each spot tells the story of the ancient town, it's simply enchanting!
And, and, the Xiaosi dogs are super cute too! They look silly and well-behaved, but they are actually the only breed recognized as a world-class hunting dog in our country! But everyone should be careful, Xiaosi dogs are a bit cautious, so don't just go touching them! The intangible cultural heritage here is also very rich, with traditional paper-cutting, batik skills, and handmade noodle making, all super interesting!
Hehe, although there aren't many tourists here during the May Day holiday, everyone should still book tickets and accommodation in advance, don't wait until the last minute! When touring the ancient town, remember to protect the cultural relics and historic sites, don't touch or damage them! When experiencing the ethnic culture, respect the local customs and be a polite tourist! Also, remember to protect yourself from the sun and mosquitoes, bring the necessary travel supplies, so you can have fun!
For the May Day holiday, don't go to Xijiang where it's crowded, come to Xiaosi Ancient Town to enjoy this tranquility and beauty! Come check out my homepage for more exciting travel routes waiting for you to discover!
Xiasi Ancient Town by the water is really beautiful
The lesser-known scenic spot in Kaili, Guiyang, is Xiasi Ancient Town.
After thinking with friends for several days, we finally chose to travel to the cool Guizhou. We set off from Chongqing to Shuanghe Valley for a day, and then drove to Kaili for four hours to Xiasi Ancient Town.
Xiasi Ancient Town has been a commercial town since ancient times. The hot summer is suitable for coming to the small town with water town style to cool down. When you enter Xiasi Ancient Town, you can see small boats swaying on the clear river, which is a prosperous scene in the south of the Yangtze River, very comfortable!
Xiasi Ancient Town has not been overly commercialized yet. Except for the main street being commercial, the side streets are still quite life-like. You can see the slow life of the town residents everywhere. Walking in the ancient town, you can see the Miao drum tower, stilted buildings, Yuwang Mansion, and women's college have retained a lot of old buildings, and the Sichuan and Yunnan guild hall, Guangdong guild hall also witnessed the commercial status of the year. The old pavilions and buildings from the Republic of China period have a style of Chinese and Western fusion.
