It covers an area of ​​5 hectares and is a Japanese garden built by Shimazu Mitsuhisa, the then lord of Satsuma Domain, as a villa for the Shimazu family. The garden architecture uses the technique of borrowing scenery, such as using Sakurajima as a rockery and Kinko Bay as a pond. This is a "borrowed scenery garden" that incorporates the majestic landscape of Kagoshima into the garden scenery. Visitors can enter the interior of the palace and visit it, which was once used as a guest house for the Shimazu family to entertain important guests from home and abroad.
