A swift Grab ride took us to the bustling Jalan Dhoby area, where our first stop was Tian Xin Lou, a charming Cantonese-style dim sum haven. We indulged in a tempting assortment of freshly steamed dim sum—pillowy buns, delicate dumplings, and crispy delights, each bursting with authentic flavors that set the stage for the day. At 10:30 AM, we wandered over to Bei’s Pastry, right next door, and were instantly drawn to their signature Taro Xiao Bei. The soft, cloud-like pastry encased a luscious, mildly sweet taro paste, offering a delightful balance of texture and flavor. It was the perfect follow-up to our dim sum breakfast. By 10:45 AM, we found ourselves at Pacific Kopi, just across the street. The warm, inviting café provided a cozy spot to unwind with a cup of freshly brewed coffee and their famed 3-in-1 purple fried nian gao. The crispy, golden exterior of the rice cake gave way to a chewy, satisfying bite, making it the perfect companion to our coffee.
