A Thousand-Year-Old Village: Renli, a Hidden Gem in Southern Anhui

The ancient villages of southern Anhui always evoke a sense of tranquility and peace. This time, we came to Renli in Xuancheng, a hidden gem of an ancient village. Unlike other ancient villages, it's not commercialized. Life goes on as usual, yet the marks of history are still preserved. Jixi Renli is a typical ancient Huizhou village, with many buildings from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties still standing. Historically, Jixi Renli was a bustling port for Huizhou merchants, both by land and water. It accumulated wealth and energy, with thousands of households and a prosperous population. There's a saying, "Small Jixi County, big Renli Village." It was an important town on the ancient Huihang Trail, and within the village, you can find ancient city gates, ancestral halls, memorial archways, residential houses, academies, docks, and Taohua Ancient Dam. Renli isn't large, but it's worth a visit. Observing the everyday life within this ancient village allows you to appreciate its past prosperity.
