How to visit Mengle Great Buddha Temple

Mengle Great Buddha Temple is located in the suburbs of Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna, and is built according to the national 4A-level scenic spot standards. The Great Buddha Temple was reconstructed on the original site of the ancient Dai dynasty's royal temple 'Jingpiao Buddha Temple', which was built by a Dai king named Bolong in memory of his deceased queen, Nanshaweibian. The Great Buddha Temple was destroyed in a war in the Buddhist year 2883 (which is 1848 AD, during the Qing dynasty's Xianfeng era), and it has been 169 years since then. The current Great Buddha Temple began reconstruction in 2005, and a large-scale land consecration ceremony was held on March 9 of the same year. On May 9, 2005, a grand foundation laying and consecration ceremony for the main hall was held. During the construction of the main hall, a large number of silver coins, silver boxes, and Buddhist ritual items were excavated. The Great Buddha Temple is built against the mountain with a drop of 122.8 meters, in the shape of a seated Buddha, which is unique both domestically and internationally. The temple takes the life of Buddha Sakyamuni and the activities of the temple as the main line, ingeniously integrated into the landscape and architectural complex, fully displaying the history and traditional culture of Theravada Buddhism. The Great Buddha Temple is famous for its magnificent Buddha statues and unique architectural style, attracting tourists and believers from all over the world to visit and worship. We took a taxi from the hotel to Mengle Great Buddha Temple, entered the main gate, and first took a sightseeing car up the mountain (you can also walk up 6000 steps). There is also a charged glass platform on the mountain for sightseeing and taking photos. After that, we walked down the steps and then participated in the water-splashing activity and peacock release (make sure to know the activity times in advance). The visiting time is about 3 hours.
